# Search, Smart Filters, and Notifications

Everything you need to know about notifications, the search function, and smart filters in the PASCOM app.

## 1. Using the Search Function

To navigate more efficiently within the PASCOM app, the search function provides a powerful tool.

1. Click on the **magnifying glass icon** in the menu bar or use the dynamic content window (when all other windows are closed).
2. Enter your search term.

### 1.1 Search Results

Results are clearly categorized into tabs. In the **"All"** tab, you will see a summary of *contacts, phonebook entries, chats, and the journal*.

1. Click on the corresponding tab (e.g., "Contacts" or "Chat") to filter the results.
2. Select the desired entry to directly start an action (call, chat).

### 1.2 Intelligent Search

The search is intelligent: you don't need to know the full name. Entering word fragments or the initials of the first and last name is often sufficient (e.g., "ma mu" for "Max Mustermann").

![The intelligent search completes entries automatically.](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-fb1350eb0869ae858af5d4ff5e737254cf357835%2Fsearch_intelligent.jpg?alt=media)

## 2. Search in the Dialpad

Searching in the dialpad is a huge convenience in daily work – especially when things need to go fast.

1. Open the dialpad (phone icon).
2. Enter a **name**, an **extension**, or a **phone number**.
3. The PASCOM app suggests matching entries directly.

This is particularly helpful for quickly finding a colleague to transfer a call to during an active conversation.

![Direct search for contacts within the dialpad.](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-ee665947763ebd87dfac4a2816e93b65a7f0d13e%2Fsearch_dialpad.jpg?alt=media)

## 3. Smart Filters in the Contact List

Smart filters help you maintain an overview of your contact list and hide unimportant information.

1. Click on the **filter icon (funnel)** next to the contact list search bar.
2. Select a category (e.g., "**Available**" or "**Unread messages**").
3. The contact list now only shows entries that meet this criterion.

## 4. Notifications (Pop-ups)

Notifications inform you about events in real-time. They often provide interactive ways to react immediately.

## 5. PASCOM What's New Product Updates

In the search window, you will find a **bell icon** that you can click to view current product updates. Once the **bell icon** lights up in the red PASCOM color, new updates are available.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.pascom.net/en/user/pascom-app-userguide/search.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `build a script that syncs our docs to a CMS` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
