# How to use PASCOM App Actions

In this tutorial we will show you how to use PASCOM App actions and transfer call data to an 3rd party application.

## Trainings Video

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyVqJ5SKIIk>" %}

## Overview

PASCOM App actions allow you to transfer data to third-party applications for further processing (e.g. a CRM web application with customer data). PASCOM App actions can be controlled manually or work fully automated.

## Create a new Action

The PASCOM App actions can be found in the **Settings**.

1. Open the **Settings** via the PASCOM menu.

![Open App Settings](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-c4a4bcf8655b2611f171482cd10614fb8b2e4052%2Fopen_clientsettings.jpg?alt=media)

2. Click on **Actions** in the **Settings menu**.

![Actions](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-59c55c22b99094237b88779dedf13d1a94a0ab6a%2Factions.en.jpg?alt=media)

3. Create a new action using **Add Action**.

### Pass data to URL or application

At this point, you must decide whether you want to pass data to a **URL** (e.g. a web application) or to an **application** installed on your computer.

![URL or App](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-7c54b764334956c523f8ef26e200ba690deb2fe4%2Factions-url-app.en.jpg?alt=media)

## Edit an Action

Here you determine which data you want to pass and how your action should behave. In our example we transfer the **phone number** of the caller to a **URL**.

![Setup Actions](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-4d09ae90437144985246c4ff2c4c7ffd4f9a48a0%2Factions-settings.en.jpg?alt=media)

### Set a Name

Assign a unique name to the action at **Name**, because you can create several actions and therefore you can see immediately what the action does.

### Set the URL

At **URL** set the address of your web application, followed by a variable and the data you want to pass.

**Example**

| Description                     | Parameter                                                                     |
| ------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| URL                             | [www.webadress.com](http://www.webadress.com)                                 |
| Variable of the web application | ?phone=                                                                       |
| Data from the PASCOM App        | ${number}                                                                     |
| Result                          | [www.webadress.com?phone=${number}](http://www.webadress.com?phone=${number}) |

{% hint style="info" %}
The composition of the **URL** is of course completely up to you and you can therefore transfer the data as you need it.
{% endhint %}

**PASCOM parameters that can be used**

| Parameter          | Description                                                        |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| ${name} | Contains the name of the caller, resolved from the phone book |
| ${number} | Contains the phone number of the caller. (Format: 0049123456789) |
| ${number\_e123} | Contains the phone number of the caller. (Format: +49123456789) |
| ${number\_display} | Contains the phone number of the caller: (Format: +49 123 45678 9) |
| ${MDC\_LABEL-X} | Contains the system variable of a label of the caller |
| ${MDC\_SKILL-X}    | Contains the system variable of a skill                            |
| ${journalNotes} | Contains the notes of the caller from the call journal |

## Run actions automatically

Actions can be started automatically in connection with the **call direction** and a **call result** for the following **call types**:

1. Internal calls from colleagues
2. External calls on the own extension
3. External calls via a team / queue

### Call direction for automatic actions

For **Call direction**, specify whether the action should start automatically for **incoming**, **outgoing** or **both** call directions.

### Trigger event for automatic actions

In the **Trigger event** item, set when the action should start automatically: already during **ringing**, after **accepting** the call or when **hanging up** the call.

## Start actions manually

Actions can also be executed or started manually at any time. For actions that apply to the respective call, you will find an **Action open** button.

![Start actions manually](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-2ecc7535266d9c520b76df796eb9e9a869f16471%2Factions-manuel.en.jpg?alt=media) *Start actions manually with one click*

1. Click on the **Action open** button for an incoming call. A popup will also show you the name of the action that will be executed.
2. Actions can also be started directly from the **call journal**. There you will find the same **Action open** button.

## Work with data in a third-party application

Of course, you should also process the data that you transfer to a third-party application (e.g. search for phone numbers in a CRM web application).

![data in a third-party application](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-36624934f509b3c7236146ffc0c59af6170f8329%2Fdata_extern.jpg?alt=media) *Transfer data from PASCOM App to external application*

1. As you can see in the graphic above, the **URL** was given the **telephone number** of the customer, which can now be used **externally**.

## Manage Actions

In the **App Settings** you can manage your actions. Add new actions, remove existing actions and favorite actions that should be used by default.

![Manage Actions](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-e05c6c0d77b0a5a13d73c775e6142b2ad3d07fcd%2Factions_manage.en.jpg?alt=media) *Manage your actions in the PASCOM App*

1. **Deactivate** actions that you temporarily do not need.
2. Click on an **action** to **edit** it.
3. Please note that one action must always be marked as **favorite**. A single action is therefore always **favorited**.

## App Actions Troubleshooting

#### Debugging actions with the help of the App log

The execution of actions is recorded in the log files of the PASCOM App. Thus one also receives return values of applications to which data is passed. If e.g. PowerShell (Windows) complains about execution policies, this is logged as output values.

#### How to correctly escape parameters

Tokens with spaces can be surrounded by double quotes; three consecutive double quotes represent the quote character itself.

#### Pass data to PowerShell (Windows)

The following app action usage example passes data to PowerShell, which then executes a script.

**PowerShell Script Example:**

```powershell
param(
[Parameter(Mandatory=$true)][string]$number
)
Invoke-WebRequest -URI "https://example.com/action1?number=$number"
```

**PASCOM Action Example:**

1. Choose App-Action
2. App-Path: `powershell.exe`
3. App-Parameter:

```
{{-noprofile -ExecutionPolicy UnRestricted -File C:\...\incoming-call-notification.ps1 -number ${number} }}
```

In the action we pass the caller's phone number in the `${number}` variable to PowerShell, where the script processes the phone number further.

Please note that we cannot provide any support for scripts.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.pascom.net/en/user/pascom-app-userguide/client-actions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `build a script that syncs our docs to a CMS` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
