## Chat with colleagues

Quickly exchanging information with a colleague has become an indispensable tool in business communication today. In the PASCOM App, simply click on a colleague in the **contact list** to open the chat conversation window.

![Open chat from the contact list](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-15c8990baef45c46f995f30d75b96f33e3d2bd5a%2Fchat_open_contactlist.jpg?alt=media) *Open chat conversation from the contact list*

Alternatively, during an active phone call with your colleague, you can simultaneously open the chat conversation by clicking on **chat** in the **Call element**.

The dynamic content area or view window will then show you the chat conversation.

### Type a Chat message

1. Enter your message in the lower **input field** and send the message by clicking on the **red send arrow** or by pressing the **enter key**.
2. If you want a paragraph in the chat message, press **Shift + Enter key** to insert a blank line.

## Group chat with several colleagues

For group chat rooms you first need a PASCOM group which you can create with the following [tutorial](/en/user/pascom-app-userguide/pascom-groups.md).

Click on the **group** in your contact list to open the chat conversation.

![Open Group Chat](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-e4a0ef1e6932f21521edeec4fb45a043fd357a5a%2Fgroupchat_open_contactlist.en.jpg?alt=media) *Open group chat via the contact list*

The dynamic content area or view window will then show you the chat conversation of the group.

1. Type your message as usual in the **input field** and send it by clicking on the **red send arrow** or by pressing the **enter key**.

## Close a Chat

1. Close the current chat conversation by clicking on the **red x icon**in the upper right corner.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you close a chat conversation and have already written a message but have not yet sent it, the PASCOM App saves what you have already written and you can continue editing it later. This allows you to jump back and forth between chat conversations.
{% endhint %}

## Chat Notifications

If the conversation area is not in focus and you receive a new message, a notification message appears in the **contact list** at the **profile picture** and at the respective **contact**. The profile picture always shows you the complete, not yet read, messages. Contacts with new messages will automatically move up in the contact list, if the sorting is set that way.

## Send Files (Filesharing)

The PASCOM App offers you the possibility to exchange files with your colleagues. This also works during an active call without having to hang up the phone.

There are several ways to send a file to your colleague.

1. Click on the **red paper clip** in the current chat conversation and select the file you want to send.

![File sharing via file selection](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-48949422297d3f109ad4338374617216999c3dc8%2Ffilesharing1.en.jpg?alt=media) *File sharing via file selection*

2. Drag the file you want to send from a folder directly into the **Chat area**.

![Move File](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-9eed1efca5a589f4c357c0722ce35ae6634da4d2%2Ffilesharing2.en.jpg?alt=media) *Move file directly into the conversation*

3. You can also drag/move a file directly onto your **colleague** in the **contact list**.

## Filetransfer - The Rendering-Feature

Files, images and documents that you share with other users in the PASCOM App are displayed in the chat history. This gives you full control over the file transfer.

1. Documents and files are displayed during transfer as follows.

![Filetransfer](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-e1802ebfc8c32a3fbc5be671c1f804fa1540a39f%2Ffilesharing-rendering-files.en.png?alt=media) *Documents and files in the PASCOM App*

2. Via the **download icon** you can easily download the file. Via the **trash can icon** you delete the file. The chat window will still show that this file has been removed.

![Löschen von Dateien](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-3134efcc182147a42c3f52b93365b9bf6d8d6070%2Fdelete-files.en.png?alt=media) *Deleted files in the PASCOM App*

3. Images you share in the PASCOM App are rendered and displayed as a preview in the chat window.

![Images with preview](https://2713225-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVIw0BpSv358R2Pr2HflD%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-094efbbf3f8a31e7c83982dd39230c8b7b40b757%2Fpictures-render.en.png?alt=media) *Images with preview in the PASCOM App*

### Useful tips for file transfer

1. Where can I find my downloaded images and files?

In the **Download folder** of the operating system.

2. What is the maximum file size?

**File size max. 100 MB**.

3. Why do images not have the original resolution?

Images are compressed during transmission to speed up data transfer. If you want to send your colleagues images in the **original resolution**, you must compress the image beforehand with a **ZIP program**.

4. Why do transparent PNG images have a black background in the preview?

Due to compression, **transparent PNG images** are converted to a smaller **JPG image format** for the preview image in the PASCOM App. **DON'T WORRY**: Download the image to your computer, it will have its original format.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.pascom.net/en/user/pascom-app-userguide/chat-groupchat-filesharing.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `build a script that syncs our docs to a CMS` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
